Saints Place S Darren Sharper on PUP

New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper has been placed on the "Reserve/PUP" list, reports Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com.

By being placed on this list, Sharper will miss the first six weeks of the 2010 regular season as he recovers from microfracture surgery.

Sharper, 34, had a Pro Bowl season with the New Orleans Saints in 2009, totaling 71 tackles and tying for the league lead in interceptions with 9, helping the Saints win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

After visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars this off-season, Sharper re-upped with the Saints, inking a one-year deal worth nearly $3 million.

A second-round pick out of William & Mary by the Green Bay Packers in 1997, Sharper has 63 interceptions and 11 touchdowns during a 14-year career with the Packers (1997-2004), Minnesota Vikings (2005-08) and Saints (2009). The five-time Pro Bowler was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2000s in January.
