Vikings Fire HC Brad Childress

The Minnesota Vikings have relieved head coach Brad Childress of his duties, the team announced on Monday.

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will be the interim head coach. Vikings owner Zygi and Frazier will address the media at 4pm ET.

Hired in 2006, the Vikings have gone 39-35 under Childress, including a 22-10 record between the 2008-09 seasons, winning back-to-back division titles for the first time in 30 years.

The Vikings were 1-2 in the post-season during the four-plus seasons Childress was head coach.

Childress signed a contract extension after last season, but ESPN's John Clayton reported that the final season of the deal (2013) was a team option, and that the embattled head coach's contract was only guaranteed through the 2012 season.
