T.O. Blames Media For Free Agent Status

Free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens tells 104.5 in Nashville that the media, ESPN in particular, is to blame for him not being on an NFL roster.

"People have listened to a lot of the commentaries throughout a lot of the media outlets, mainly ESPN, that has my character in question as far as things that have happened in the past.

"I may do 99 good things right and if I do one thing wrong, ESPN and the people on there ... make it out to be the worst thing ever.

"I think with the years that I've had, the last three to four years, I feel like I've tried to turn over a new leaf. But still they won't let go of what I did in the past."

Owens spent last season with the Buffalo Bills--no, seriously, he did--catching 55 passes for 829 yards and 5 touchdowns, including one for 98 yards, but he's been unable to drum up much interest on the free agent market.

The Cincinnati Bengals showed interest, but they opted to sign Antonio Bryant instead. The Seattle Seahawks also spoke to Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, earlier this off-season, but drafted Golden Tate in the second-round of the 2010 NFL Draft and are looking hard at 26-year old reclamation project Mike Williams. Unless something dramatic happens, Owens is unlikely to be a Seahawk.

Football is a game of attrition, so Owens will most likely be on the field come September. He may not be the most accountable player/person in the game--as the above quotes highlight--but he has the desire to play, and is still too talented a receiver to not be on an NFL roster.

Considering their relatively weak receiving corps, and need to win now and sell tickets, I'm surprised the Jacksonville Jaguars aren't interested in Owens.
