Seahawks to Start Matt Hasselbeck

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced that Matt Hasselbeck will start the team's Wild Card Playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.

Carroll said that he informed Hasselbeck of the decision on Monday, telling the 35-year old passer that as long as he was healthy, he'd get the nod over Charlie Whitehurst, who started Sunday night's 16-6 win over the St. Louis Rams that clinched the NFC West and playoff berth for the Seahawks.

Hasselbeck, who has been playing with a broken left wrist, aggravated a left hip/buttocks injury while running untouched into the end zone during the team's 38-15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16.

In nine career playoff starts, Hasselbeck has completed 189-of-325 pass attempts for 2,211 yards with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. The Seahawks are 4-5 in those starts.
