Redskins Sign 2010 Picks Morris, Cook

The Washington Redskins have reached deals with two more members of their 2010 draft class, signing sixth-round (174th overall) tight end/h-back Dennis Morris and seventh-round (229th overall) offensive lineman Erik Cook, Larry Weisman of Redskins.com reports.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but both are expected to have received four-year deals.

Morris played tight end and fullback during his career at Louisiana Tech, catching 70 passes for 1,144 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 6-1, 253-pound Morris earned first-team All-WAC honors after catching 38 passes for 623 yards and 12 touchdowns. A good route-runner with sure hands, Morris projects to an h-back or “move” tight end. With two-time Pro Bowler Chris Cooley and 2008 second-round tight end Fred Davis ahead of him on the depth chart, Morris’ immediate contributions will likely be made on special teams

Cook was a three-year starter at the University of New Mexico, logging time at left tackle, left guard, and ultimately center, where Cook would earn all-Mountain West honors after his junior (second team) and senior (first-team) seasons.

Cook broke his right wrist in 2008, forcing him to snap with his left hand.

At 6-6 and 318 pounds, Cook is a bit big to play center in the Redskins’ zone-blocking system, and projects to guard or perhaps right tackle, where his older brother Ryan plays for the Minnesota Vikings.

Seventh-round offensive tackle Selvish Capers signed a four-year contract today, as well.
