Rams OT Jason Smith Injures Ankle

St. Louis Rams right tackle Jason Smith rolled an ankle during today's practice, the team reports.

X-rays on Smith's ankle were negative, head coach Steve Spagnuolo said, adding that the second overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft will be monitored on a day-to-day basis.

The NFC West-leading Rams have lost two straight, due in part to teams sending various blitzes at Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, who has completed 39-of-75 pass attempts for 412 yards and 4 interceptions the last two weeks. Bradford has also been sacked six times in the last two games, and playing without their starting right tackle might exacerbate their struggles in pass protection.

St. Louis hosts the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. With a win, the Rams can eliminate the 49ers from playoff contention and perhaps take a full game lead over the Seattle Seahawks headed into their rematch in the regular season finale on January 2 in Qwest Field.
