Packers Release LB Jeremy Thompson

The Green Bay Packers released linebacker Jeremy Thompson on Monday, and the third-year linebacker from Wake Forest promptly announced his retirement.

Thompson suffered a "stinger" during a December 4, 2009 practice that required overnight hospitalization.

"I have consulted with a number of physicians, and due to my medical condition my intention is to retire from football," Thompson said in a statement on the Packers' official website. "I am thankful to the Packers organization and to the fans for their support during my time in Green Bay. The Packers are a first-class organization and I want to thank them for the opportunity to play in the NFL. There truly is no team I would have rather played for."

A fourth-round pick (102nd overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft, Thompson started 3 of his 15 games for the Packers, totaling 9 tackles, including one for a loss.
