LeCharles Bentley Sues the Browns

Former NFL center LeCharles Bentley has filed a lawsuit against the Cleveland Browns.

Former NFL center LeCharles Bentley has filed a lawsuit against the Cleveland Browns, Pat McManamon of AOL FanHouse reports.

In a suit that appears identical to the one filed by former Browns wide receiver Joe Jurevicius, Bentley's suit was filed Cuyahoga (OH) County Court, and claims that Bentley "almost died" from a Staph infection he contracted while rehabilitating his surgically-repaired knee at the team's Berea, Ohio facility.

"The Browns convinced LeCharles to rehab at their facility," Bentley's attorney, Shannon Polk, said Thursday. "Nothing required him to do it (there). That wasn't part of his job. They told him their facility was the best and that they had successfully helped others. But they never told him about a host of unsanitary conditions there and they never told him about the list of others who contracted Staph before he chose to rehab there.

"Had the Browns disclosed that stuff to him, had they been straight with him, he would have never agreed to rehab at their training facility.

"The man nearly died from the staph infection he got there."

Bentley is seeking over $25,000 in damages, the same figure sought by Jurevicius last summer. Jurevicius reached an undisclosed settlement with the Browns in June.

Bentley, 30, was a second-round pick (44th overall) out of Ohio State by the New Orleans Saints in 2002. A two-time Pro Bowler during his first four seasons in the NFL, Bentley signed with the Browns, his hometown team, in 2006.

Bentley tore the patellar tendon on the first day of training camp, underwent four operations on his knee, which nearly cost him his entire leg. Bentley never played a down in a Browns' uniform.
