According to a league source, the New York Jets signed free agent punter/kicker Jared Ballman over the weekend.

Ballman (5-11, 186) handled the punting, kickoff, and long-distance field goal kicking duties for the University of Washington during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Ballman averaged 39.7 yards on his 136 punts, and was 2-of-7 on his field goal attempts for the Huskies.

Twelve of Ballman's 40 kickoffs during the 2008 season went for touchbacks.
