Falcons Sign 3rd Round G Mike Johnson

The Atlanta Falcons announced the signing of third-round guard Mike Johnson.

Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

A three-year starter at Alabama, Johnson (6-5, 312) began his career at right tackle, playing opposite Andre Smith, the sixth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Johnson moved inside to right guard late in the '07 season before switching to the left side of the offensive line in 2008, earning second-team All-SEC honors as he and Smith formed one of the most dominant sides of an offensive line in college football.

Johnson remained at left guard as a senior, earning first-team All-American honors.

The 98th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, Johnson has been working at left guard throughout the OTAs. While he's not expected to start this season, Johnson is viewed as a key part of the future of the Falcons' interior offensive line.

Johnson is the fifth of the Falcons' seven picks in the 2010 NFL Draft to sign a contract, with first-round linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and fifth-round wide receiver Kerry Meier the remaining unsigned picks.
