Eagles Agree to Terms With Pair of 7th Rounders

Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with linebacker Jamar Chaney and defensive tackle Jeff Owens, a pair of seventh-round selections in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Caplan adds that Chaney received a signing bonus of slightly over $60,000, while Owens signed for around $44,000.

Chaney (6-1, 242) was chosen with the 220th overall pick after starting 39 games at Mississippi State University over the last 4+ seasons. Chaney led the Bulldogs in tackles during the 2007, and likely would've done the same in 2008 had it not been for a broken leg during a season-opener that Chaney posted a team-high 12 tackles in.

After receiving a medical redshirt, Chaney led Mississippi State in tackles last season.

While he's listed as a strong-side linebacker, to make the 53-man roster, Chaney will need to show versatility, as well as the ability to be an instant contributor on special teams.

Owens was the 243rd overall pick, chosen one spot ahead of safety Kurt Coleman, who signed a four-year, $1.833 million dollar contract on Thursday.

A 6-1, 304-pound run-stuffing defensive tackle from the University of Georgia, Owens started 37 of his 52 games in Athens, totaling 102 tackles, including 13 for a loss. Owens added 5.5 quarterback sacks, but isn't expected to contribute much in that department at the NFL level. Like Chaney, Owens was injured in the 2008 season opener (torn ACL) and played last season under a medical redshirt.

Chaney and Owens are the third and fourth Eagles' draft picks to sign or agree to terms on a contract, joining the aforementioned Coleman and sixth-round running back Charles Scott, who signed a four-year, $1.881 million dollar contract, which included a $91,000 signing bonus, on Wednesday.
