Dolphins Would Receive 7th Rounder for Smiley

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that if Miami Dolphins guard Justin Smiley passes a physical with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday, the Dolphins will receive a seventh-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Jacksonville for the seventh-year guard from Alabama.

Smiley underwent surgery on his right shoulder in 2007, and required a followed up procedure last off-season. The questionable long-term health of that shoulder, and Smiley's increasing base salaries on his five-year, $25 million dollar contract, are the driving force behind the Dolphins' attempts to trade him this off-season.

The ability to pass a physical varies from team-to-team, and the Jaguars' short-term need for a quality interior lineman may prompt them to pass Smiley on his physical, despite his long-term prognosis and $2.9 million dollar base salary in 2010.
