Bears Shuffle Practice Squad

The Chicago Bears shuffled their practice squad on Tuesday, signing undrafted rookie linebacker Chris Johnson and first-year punter Richmond McGee.

Linebacker Marcus Buggs and wide receiver Greg Mathews were released.

Johnson (6-2, 230) played his college ball at South Dakota State, and signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in the spring. Johnson was credited with three tackles for the Cardinals during the pre-season.

McGee (6-4, 203) has yet to punt in an NFL game, averaging 34.9 yards on 7 punts between two pre-seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (2008) and Bears (2009). McGee spent the off-season on the Bears roster as Brad Maynard recovered from hip surgery, but was waived on August 4.

The 36-year old Maynard is averaging a career-low 38.4 yards per punt in the final year of his current contract.
