Bears Bring in Matt Gutierrez

After being spurned by thirty and fortysomething free agent quarterbacks, the Chicago Bears are bringing 26-year old free agent quarterback Matt Gutierrez to Halas Hall, reports Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

The expectation is that if Gutierrez passes a physical, he will sign a contract.

Gutierrez (6-4, 230) began his college career at Michigan before transferring to Idaho State. Signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2007, Gutierrez appeared in five games over two seasons, attempting one pass (complete, for 15 yards) before being waived last September.

Claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs, Gutierrez got into one game and completed a three-yard pass.

Gutierrez was waived in June and signed with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks.
