49ers Owner York Texts Down the Gauntlet

San Francisco 49ers owner and president has declared, via text message, that his 0-5 team will win the NFC West.

"We're going to win the division," York texed ESPN on Monday, the morning after his team's 27-24 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 49ers have not won the NFC West since 2002, compiling a 40-76 record in the 7+ seasons since.

49ers' fans booed the offensive play-calling from the start, and when quarterback Alex Smith struggled, loudly chanted "We Want Carr!", a reference to back-up quarterback David Carr, a former first-round pick who has a 75.2 passer rating and hasn't started an NFL game since the 2007 season.

Smith and 49ers head coach Mike Singletary also clashed on the sidelines, and it appeared as though Smith's night was done. Instead, Singletary sent Smith back out onto the field, where Smith lead two fourth quarter touchdown drives.

Despite Smith's late-game efforts, the Eagles lost and Singletary has not committed to a quarterback for next week's home game against the Oakland Raiders.
