Packers Periscope: Week 10 vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Lambeau Field in week 10.

The Green Bay Packers will host the 1-7 Jacksonville Jaguars in week 10. Jacksonville, 1-7, are in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes but are still fighting the urge to enter full tank mode for the promising prospect. Green Bay, on the other hand, will look to easily discard an inferior opponent and improve to 7-2.

It’s been 12 years since the Jaguars defeated the Packers. So, you could say Jacksonville is due, however, your money is probably better spent elsewhere. Although, there is a chance it ends in a close game. In five out of six total meetings between these two teams, the game has been decided by single digits.

Green Bay has won the last two meetings with the most recent occurring in 2016 in 90-degree Florida heat. The Packers got off to a notoriously slow start, barely escaping with a 27 to 23 season-opening win. Green Bay was outgained 348 to 294 in total yards of offense. Putting in bluntly, Aaron Rodgers said he did not think the Packers offense played well that day. The defense was busy giving up 320 yards to Blake Bortles.

Green Bay won’t see Bortles this week, but they will be facing a strong-armed rookie in Jake Luton. Luton is set to make his second career start against the Packers. Last week, he completed 26 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans. It is unlikely that Luton is the quarterback of the future for the Jaguars, but it will be interesting to see how Green Bay’s defense fairs playing a rookie.

The Packers could be without starting corner Jaire Alexander, who left last Thursday’s game with a concussion. Alexander, one of the top corners in the NFL this season, is still in concussion protocol.

However, besides the unfortunate news surrounding Alexander, Green Bay is starting to get healthier at a good point in the year. They could potentially activate wide receiver Allen Lazard and inside linebacker Christian Kirksey before Sunday’s game. Both have returned to practice and are eligible to join the active roster. Starting left tackle David Bakhtiari has also been the subject of good news, returning to practice this week as a full participant.

Even if the Packers do decide to hold guys out against the Jaguars, they are still expected to win. Their high-powered offense is facing a defense that is allowing 418 yards per game and just under 31 points.

Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams could have a huge day once again, and so could the run game. Currently, Jacksonville is surrendering 138 yards per game on the ground.

Defensively, Green Bay should be able to build off of a solid performance in week nine against the San Francisco 49ers. The Jaguars do not have much of a run game to pair with Luton and their weapons at receiver aren’t going to strike fear in the Packers secondary.

This is not a game Green Bay is going to want to let slip away, especially with a number one seed on the line. Even an anomalous mid-season loss can come back to haunt a team down the road. That shouldn’t happen this week as the Packers ought to win comfortably over a lowly Jacksonville.  The Jaguars probably have their sights set on a rebuild.

We’re a better team than Jacksonville, we’re playing at home and we have Aaron Rodgers. The only way the Packers lose this game is if they beat themselves.

Packers 38 - Jags 16. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ‘61

"The Jaguars do not have much of a run game to pair with Luton and their weapons at receiver aren’t going to strike fear in the Packers secondary."

Interesting take Brandon...Right now James Robinson is 6th in the NFL in rushing with 580 yards and 5 TD's and has caught 27 passes for another 279 yards and 2 more TD's. Granted Robinson was an UDFA this year as a rookie but IMO that's the ONE thing they do have going for them...

Just saying the Packers BETTER keep an eye on that kid and not look forward to Indy otherwise he just could Dalvin Cook Mike Pettines ass and that would be absolutely UNBEARABLE to watch.

As long as Pettine and his defense step up and stop Robinson, the Packers will win this game by 21points at least ...38 - 17!

Would really like to see Lazard play a few snaps and get his legs before Indy.

A smart coach would have Winn on board for the D line rotation and stay w/ a heavy front. I would like DJ Chark in our receiver corps.

Yes. For some odd reason though they'd rather play lowry. Im sick of it. I dont care what the dude makes. 7 million too much. Get your best players on the field. Winn has earned more playing time. It seems every time winn plays he gets at least one run stuff or two. He plays with spunk and fire, something this defense desperately needs.

Billy Winn played for Pettine in Cleveland. It’s not a stretch to think Pettine was involved in the decision to bring Winn to GreennBay. He’ll play when he’s ready. The season isn’t even half over and all the important games remain.

Pettine is a smart coach.

We’re one of the top passing and scoring. teams in the league, along with KC and Seattle. How would DJ Chark change that?

Another wind game on Sunday. Packers need to play like a SB contender.

We are very thin in the secondary. Hope the next guy up steps way up. I have not heard anyone talk about this Mike Weber RB we picked up. Looks like he has pretty good vision, lateral movement and 4.4 speed. I hope he found a home and learns fast.
