On today's episode, Zachary is joined by Grant Shatzer who helps him break down the Packers' initial 53-man roster that was released on Saturday. They analyze the backup quarterback position and what qualities made the team opt for Tim Boyle over DeShone Kizer, as well as the decision to send Equanimeous St. Brown straight to injured reserve and end his 2019 season before it begins. Finally, they take a look at how the defense shaped up with the surprise -- or maybe not so surprising? -- additions of versatile defensive backs Chandon Sullivan and Will Redmond.

I think the Packers are solid at safety and DB , with an improved pass rush the defense should be much improved , I don’t know if Boyle is the guy and I’m surprised they could not trade Kizer , I believe he will be signed, I think Gutekunst is not done and still looking for a veteran QB and possible help at running back . Don’t know if many teams keep 4 tight ends and a fullback , must be a reason.

The running game, and also giving the illusion of running the ball out of 22 personnel, you will see a lot of Jones, Vitale, Graham and Lewis/Tonyan with one WR Adams obviously.

@Lphill
I see them as solid at CB, but not Safety. Amos and rookie Savage are certainly better than what WAS here, but Savage could do with at least a year to understand Pettine's schemes and Amos is new as well.

I do not mean to say the safety position is bad (it's much better than in 2018), but solid ? Not yet.

The reason the Packers kept 4 TEs is because they will lose two of them at the end of the year, after which they will be relying on Tonyan and Sternberger to carry the torch.

I agree that if Gute sees a vet QB he likes, that is available, he should get him in. Also agree that the lowest spot on the RB position group might churn some in the coming weeks.

Really happy for Darius Shepherd. Hope we can get Lazard on the PS. I was hoping we could keep him on the 53 as well, but I understand the numbers don't really make sense to keep 7 WRs.

Agree Thrilla. Too bad a decent deal for Gordon couldn’t be worked out.

Linebacker Kiko Alonso has been traded to the Saintsin exchange for linebacker Vince Biegel, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Markus Jones and Lazard not yet on PS.

Might be a PS bidding war for those two.

If I could suggest something, could you stop talking about how you are stumbling over your words? Everybody stumbles sometimes and it's fine, just power through it. But when you make a big deal about it and talk about how you are stumbling, that's when it becomes really distracting.

Overall, no big surprises on the 53 or PS. Putting EQ on IR was a bit of a surprise, but with injuries you just never know. He could have a fractured tibula or fibula that we don't know about and that would end his season if so. I'm actually guessing that's why they put him on IR.

I know people like to think we have tons of depth, but I just don't see it. This team has been overhauled and it's going to take Gutekunst another year to get that depth for these decisions to become truly difficult. That's to be expected, but I wouldn't be surprised if our lack of depth kills our Super Bowl chances. Of course, with AR we always have a chance.
