Thanks for this, Andy. A lot of people think Edgerrin Cooper is overrated and/or would be a poor fit for the Packers, mostly due to him being too similar to Quay Walker. My feeling is that if Jeff Hafley is any good, he should be able to find ways to use talented players.
It's also interesting to hear you say that James has interviewed well. Somebody here has said that James interviewed poorly, but I don't know where they heard that.

Too similar to the best LB taken in the draft two years ago?
This stuff about instincts......The reason you practice, and study film, is to train your instincts. I think Walker was better in this regard last year v. his rookie year, and I don't have any issue with Cooper's instincts.
I'm assuming you meant Edgerrin Cooper, and the former Indy RB.

Yikes, I wrote Edgerrin James! Thanks for pointing that out. I corrected it. I still sometimes refer to A.J. Dillon as Corey Dillon.

It's because you're old, and you have too much knowledge in your head, and you can't keep it all organized.

Can I use that one during my next audit, LH?

It used to be so simple to just defrag your hard drive.

After Cooper had accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game - he pulled out of practicing at the last minute. So when the teams interviewed him and asked why he opted out late - instead of practicing - Cooper abruptly responded by asking if they had watched his tape. Apparently there have been some other reports about his bad attitude and ego - having some teams wondering about adding his personality to their team. Now how much of this is just scuttlebut? Who knows. At the same time, both Colson and Wilson have been free of similar reports / rumors.
Aside from any attitude - ego issues - which Gutekunst will be the final adjudicator. My questions about Cooper are more about his on-field play. Specifically the need to improve his zone awareness, delayed play recognition, his struggles at taking on and shedding blocks and missed tackles - especially against more agile players. Due to these deficiencies - I think that there are other LBs who could pair better with Walker.

Thanks, I hadn't heard about any of that. Maybe his attitude would not be a good fit.

We should also take into consideration that it's smokescreen season. However there seems to be just a little smoke around Cooper. Nevertheless I trust that Gutie will make an accurate assessment.

Having two starting LBs with questionable instincts just doesn't seem like a good idea.

I will state the obvious. We need at least one ILB and ideally two. Unless you really love McDuffie you have three options 1) Payton Wilson, E. Cooper or if, and only if he tests well Junior Colsum. From a numbers standpoint the only standout is Payton Wilson. If he gets Medical clearance he will be the steal of the draft at 25 and in my opinion well worth the risk reward ratio. If healthy he is one of the best overall players in the draft . Period. We need depth at other positions but we need a dynamic starter at ILB. It is that simple. In addition Payton could also play edge as a pass rushing specialist with 4.3 speed. Let that sink in. It's a no brainer . Period. I will be very disappointed if they do not use pick 25 for an ILB preferably Payton Wilson. Ideally both.

Andy, you make Edgerrin Cooper sound pretty good, but I hope the Packers don't draft him at 25 if a premium offensive tackle, one of the three top interior offensive linemen, or the versatile Cooper Dejean is there when we make our 1st pick in the draft. If the Packers are really sold on Edgerrin Cooper, I would certainly not object to using one of the 2nd round picks on him.
