Steelers Sign Pair of 5th Round Picks

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed fifth-round picks Chris Scott and Crezdon Butler.

Both players signed three-year contract, with the financial terms undisclosed. Undrafted rookie safety Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith was waived to make room for the signees on the 80-man roster.

Scott was a three-year starter at the University of Tennessee, earning second-team All-SEC honors after last season. Scott (6-5, 316) started at left tackle his final two seasons in Knoxville, but lacks the quickness to play the position in the NFL, and a move to guard is likely.

Butler started 40 games for Clemson, including each game over the last three seasons. For his career, Butler totaled 174 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 21 pass break-ups. Butler earned honorable mention All-ACC honors after the 2009 season, and his 243 return yards on his 11 picks are the second-most in school history.

At the 2010 Scouting Combine, the 6-0, 191-pound Butler ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds, and showed off a vertical leap of 39.5" and a 10'01" broad jump, proving he had the athleticism to play outside at the next level.

With Scott and Butler signed, the Steelers have only their first-round (Maurkice Pouncey) and second-round (Jason Worilds) picks to sign before training camp opens on July 30.
