Seahawks Waive QB Mike Reilly

Quarterback Mike Reilly's dream of playing for his hometown Seattle Seahawks has been interrupted, as the Seahawks waived the former Central Washington University standout on Tuesday.

Claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams on May 4, Reilly entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers last summer. Reilly completed 10-of-15 pass attempts 117 yards, but was waived at the end of training camp and hit the workout circuit. Signed to the Green Bay Packers' practice squad on November 19, the Rams added Reilly to their active roster on December 9, where he was the emergency third quarterback for the final month of the regular season.

To fill his spot on the 80-man roster, the Seahawks signed free agent wide receiver Marcus Maxwell. A seventh-round pick (223rd overall) out of Oregon by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, Maxwell has been active for nine games in his NFL career, catching one pass for 5 yards as a member of the 2007 Cincinnati Bengals.

Maxwell has also spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, and caught two passes for 27 yards last pre-season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 6-4, 205-pound Maxwell caught 21 passes for 347 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League last Fall.
