Seahawks to Re-Sign WR Ruvell Martin

According to NFL marketing agent Stacy Jenson, the Seattle Seahawks will re-sign wide receiver Ruvell Martin today.

Martin went to training camp in 2010 with the Seahawks, catching six passes for 55 yards and recording one special teams tackle before he was released on September 4. With Mike Williams (knee) and Golden Tate (ankle) ailing, the Seahawks are in need of depth at the wide receiver position, particularly on the outside.

The Seahawks' roster has several open spots after placing defensive lineman Red Bryant (knee) and Ben Hamilton (head) on injured reserve, and placing running back Quinton Ganther and cornerback Nate Ness on waivers.

An undrafted free agent from Saginaw Valley State, Martin's NFL career began with the San Diego Chargers in 2004. After spending his rookie season on the street, Martin re-signed with the Chargers in 2005 and caught six passes for 86 yards and a touchdown during the pre-season, but did not make the 53-man roster. Martin joined the Green Bay Packers' practice squad midway through the 2005 season, and earned a spot on their 53-man roster the following summer.

In 46 career games, including 9 starts, with the Packers (2006-08) and St. Louis Rams (2009), the 6-4, 215-pound Martin has 58 receptions for 848 yards and 6 touchdowns, with four tackles and a fumble recovery on special teams.

Current Seahawks general manager John Schneider worked in Green Bay's personnel department when Martin joined the Packers in 2005.

Martin had a workout with the Minnesota Vikings in mid-September.
