Seahawks Sending Three for MRIs

Rough night injury-wise for the Seattle Seahawks, who will send first-round left tackle Russell Okung and newly acquired defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer for MRIs.

Okung left last night's 27-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers after one series with an ankle injury. X-rays on Okung's ankle were negative, but head coach Pete Carroll wouldn't rule out the possibility of a high ankle sprain, which would jeopardize Okung's availability for the start of the regular season.

If Okung is out for a few weeks, Mansfield Wrotto, a converted guard, will likely protect Matt Hasselbeck's blindside.

Balmer was injured during the fourth quarter when his left leg appeared to buckle while he was engaged with a pair of Packers' offensive linemen. It was announced in the press box as an ankle injury, but Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that Balmer will undergo MRIs on his knee and ankle.

The Seahawks acquired Balmer from the San Francisco 49ers last week for a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Balmer is expected to provide depth at strong-side defensive end and both interior positions on Seattle's defensive line.

Seahawks cornerback Kelly Jennings will also undergo an MRI on his left elbow.
