Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Ganther was arrested in downtown Sacramento at approximately 3:15am, and was booked into county jail at 6:50 am. Ganther's bail was listed at $1,482 and he has a court date scheduled for Wednesday.
"We are aware of the situation, and in the process of gathering information. No further comment at this time", the Seahawks said in a statement released on Saturday.
A seventh-round pick (246th overall) out of Utah by the Tennessee Titans in 2006, the 5-9, 218-pound Ganther has rushed for 262 yards and three touchdowns, with 15 receptions for 142 yards during 25 games over the last four seasons. Ganther set career highs in 2009 by rushing for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 9 receptions for 99 yards for the Washington Redskins.
Ganther signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks this off-season, re-joining running backs coach Sherman Smith, Ganther's position coach in both Tennessee and Washington. Ganther is competing for a back-up running back role this off-season. Seahawks general manager John Schneider has praised Ganther's abilities as contributor both in the running game and special teams, and his versatility as a possible fullback.
