NFL rules state that suspended players are to not only avoid contact with coaches, they're also not allowed to attend the games they are suspended for.

Like Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill violated the terms of his one-game suspension by showing up for the Seahawks' 31-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Qwest Field.

Today, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll acknowledged that he wasn't aware of the rule, and that the team should have communicated the rule to Hill to avoid further league discipline.

"I didn’t know what the rule was on that one, and I didn’t tell him," Carroll said, according to Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune. “So what he did, he did on his own. But we should have been able to let him know what was going on. We just didn’t tell him.

"So he showed up. He was there but I didn’t see him around. The rule says a guy that’s suspended isn’t supposed to be at the stadium. And so I didn’t know that. We found out the hard way."

The NFL is still reviewing the matter, but Hill has been cleared to play on Sunday, which he'll do in a reserve role.
