Saints Sign Two More Undrafted Free Agents

Kentucky linebacker Sam Maxwell and Auburn wide receiver Montez Billing, two undrafted free agents who tried out for the New Orleans Saints this past weekend, were signed to undisclosed contracts on Monday, Mike Triplett of the Times-Picayune reports.

Maxwell, a 6-2, 246-pound outside linebacker, posted 81 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss, during the 2009 season, his first as a starter. Maxwell required surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which hurt his draft stock. Invited to, but limited at, the Combine, Maxwell wasn't able to do many of the pertinent workouts until his pro day on March 10, where he ran a pedestrian 4.98-40.

Billings, who transferred to Auburn after beginning his college career at the University of Arizona, was suspended for the first four games of the 2009 season due to an "academic issue", which prompted him to leave school for "personal reasons". Billings caught 55 passes for 645 yards and 1 touchdown during his 34-game college career.

The 6-1, 181-pound Billings ran a 4.42-40 at his pro day in March, while demonstrating a 34.5" vertical leap and a 10'6" broad jump, which would've tied for the highest mark among wide receivers at the Combine.
