Saints Sign K John Carney

The New Orleans Saints have signed free agent kicker John Carney, Nakia Hogan of The Times-Picayune reports.

This will be the 46-year old Carney's 23rd season in the NFL, and his 8th with the Saints.

Carney has connected on 473 of 574 field goal attempts during his career, which has included stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Giants.

Carney was a Pro Bowler in 1994 and 2008, and ranks 3rd on the NFL's all-time scoring list with 2,044 points.

New Orleans brought Carney and Kris Brown in for tryouts after Garrett Hartley missed his third field goal attempt of the season, a 29-yard attempt in overtime of the Saints' 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The Saints are expected to keep both Hartley and Carney on the 53-man roster.
