Saints Release QB Patrick Ramsey

The New Orleans Saints have released quarterback Patrick Ramsey, reports Mike Triplett of The Times-Picayune.

No confirmation from the Saints, who have yet to announce any of their roster moves.

Ramsey was in a battle with Chase Daniel to be the back-up to Drew Brees this season, and both quarterbacks played well at times during the pre-season. Daniel had the edge in completion percentage (64.6% to 62.2%) and touchdowns (4), while Ramsey had more yards (400 to 369) and fewer interceptions (3 for Daniel, 1 for Ramsey).

Under head coach Sean Payton, the Saints routinely show a willingness to go with one quarterback to start the season. Ramsey's $755,000 salary guaranteed if he's on the roster next Wednesday, and Daniel's $395,000 salary non-guaranteed, may be a factor in the Saints' decision to release Ramsey, who could be brought back for Week 2.
