Redskins WR Brandon Banks Underwent Knee Surgery

Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver/return specialist Brandon Banks underwent knee surgery during the team's bye week, Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports.

Reid adds that Banks is likely to miss two weeks, keeping him out of games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.

A 5-7, 150-pound undrafted free agent from Kansas State, Banks has one receptions for -5 yards on the season, but over the last four weeks, averaged 27.3 yards (7th in NFL) on 16 kick returns, including a 96-yard return for a touchdown against the Detroit Lions in Week 7.

Banks also ranks 3rd in the NFL with a 13.8-yard punt return average, with a long of 53 yards.

With Banks out, running back Chad Simpson and cornerback Phillip Buchanon could pick up opportunities in the return game. 2010 seventh-round wide receiver/return specialist Terrence Austin could be signed off the practice squad, as well.
