Redskins to Meet With JaMarcus Russell

With his legal issues behind him, free agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell will meet with the Washington Redskins, Mark Berman of MyFOXHouston reports.

Russell, 25, is currently training with former NBA head coach John Lucas in Houston, Texas.

In 31 games for the Oakland Raiders, including 25 starts, the first overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft out of LSU completed 52.1% of 680 pass attempts for 4,083 yards with 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions, compiling a 65.2 passer rating before he was released on May 6.

Last month, Russell told ESPN's John Clayton that he weighed 277 pounds and wasn't giving any thought to using the UFL as a catalyst to the NFL.

"As a kid growing up, you don't dream of going to the UFL," said Russell. "Your dreams are set upon the NFL. The NFL is one of the leagues where its kind of at the top and at its best, and I know that I can be a part of that, and that's just where my mind's set right now."

Third-string quarterback John Beck is the only Redskins quarterback signed beyond this season.
