Redskins Sign WR Mike Furrey

The Washington Redskins announced that they have signed veteran free agent wide receiver Mike Furry.

In addition to adding Furrey, the Redskins released tight end Sean Ryan, cornerback Marcus McCauley, lineback Alvin Bowen, and defensive lineman Antoine Holmes.

Signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa in 2000, Furrey has 221 receptions for 2,298 yards and 7 touchdowns during a career that has included stints with the St. Louis Rams (2003-05), Detroit Lions (2006-08), and Cleveland Browns.

Furry (6-0, 195) converted to safety in 2005, totaling 48 tackles and 4 interceptions, returning one 67 yards for a touchdown. Furrey caught 98 passes for 1,086 yards and six touchdowns in 2006, his first with the Detroit Lions.

Furrey played both ways for the Browns last season, ranking third on the team with 23 receptions while adding 14 tackles and two pass break-ups from the safety position.
