Redskins Contact Flozell Adams

During an interview with Sirius NFL Radio, Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen admitted that the Redskins have contacted Jordan Woy, the Dallas-based agent who represents free agent offensive tackle Flozell Adams, reports Ryan O'Halloran of CSNWashington.com.

After 12 seasons in Dallas, Adams was released last Friday. While his level of play had tailed off, Adams $7.5 million dollars in total compensation in 2010 was a factor in the team's decision to release him.

What would the Redskins' pursuit of Adams mean for the 2010 NFL Draft? Nothing.

Over the last five drafts, which produced a steady stream of quality tackles, Vinny Cerrato did nothing to address the position, opting instead to operate under the failed assumption that Chris Samuels would never age or succumb to injury. As a result, Samuels' unsurprising retirement this off-season has left them with a gaping hole protecting newly acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb's blindside.

With the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, the Redskins are likely to have the pick of the litter from this year's tackle class, which could see as many as seven go in the first round.

Adams, who turns 34 in May, has missed just 10 games during his 12-year career, and none since the 2005 season. Assuming a tackle is added with the fourth pick, Adams could start at left tackle until the rookie is ready to play, or he could push Stephon Heyer for the starting right tackle job.

At worst, Adams would provide depth at both tackle positions, which is something the Redskins have lacked for a very long time.
