Rams WR Donnie Avery Suffers Significant Knee Injury

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery was carted off the field with less than two minutes to play in the first half of the Rams' 36-35 win over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

Avery fell to the turf while adjusting to a pass thrown by Sam Bradford down the right sideline. Upon hitting the turf, Avery immediately clutched his right knee.

"Donnie probably has a significant knee injury," Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. ""We'll know a little bit more after we get the tests (on Sunday). He was a little bit down, and rightfully so. Hopefully, it's not as bad as we think."

The Rams' second-leading receiver in each of his two seasons since being selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft out of the University of Houston, Avery was entrenched in the starting lineup and a serious injury would be a severe blow to the Rams' offense.

Laurent Robinson is scheduled to start opposite Avery, who would be replaced by a combination of Brandon Gibson, Keenan Burton, and Danny Amendola.
