Rams Agree to Terms With 2nd Round OT Rodger Saffold

Brian Stull of 101 ESPN in St. Louis reports that the St. Louis Rams have reach an agreement in principle on a contract with second-round offensive tackle Rodger Saffold.

Saffold's agents, Alan Herman and Jared Fox, of SPORTSTARS, Inc. flew to St. Louis last night to meet face-to-face with Rams executive vice-president of football operations Kevin Demoff, and a deal was expected to be completed today.

The Rams rookies are scheduled to report to training camp today, with the veterans reporting on Friday.

A four-year starter at left tackle for Indiana University, Saffold (6-5, 315) anchored an offense line that paved the way for the 35th-ranked rushing attack and allowed just 16 quarterback sacks in 2009.

Saffold earned second-team All-Big Ten honors after last season.

Equally adept at pass and run blocking, Saffold was viewed as a legitimate first-round prospect. The Rams used the first pick of the second round on Saffold, and later on, would trade restricted free agent Alex Barron to the Dallas Cowboys.

Saffold will start at right tackle, playing opposite 2009 first-round pick Jason Smith.
