Raiders Let Cable Go

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable has been informed that the team will not pick up the option on his contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Had the Raiders exercised the option, they would have been obligated to pay Cable through the 2012 season.

Cable will now be free to pursue opportunities with other NFL teams.

Earlier today, the Raiders granted permission for offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to interview for the San Francisco 49ers head coaching job. The 49ers have settled on Trent Baalke on general manager, and are expected to begin meeting with potential head coaches on Wednesday.

Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh is believed to the favorite for that job, meaning Jackson could be in the mix for the Raiders' head coaching position, as well.
