Raiders DE Richard Seymour Signs Franchise Tag

Oakland Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour has signed his franchise tag, the team announced on Saturday.

The Raiders placed the "Exclusive Rights" tag on Seymour, which will pay the 30-year old $12.398 million dollars in 2010 if a long-term contract is not reached by July 15.

Acquired last September from the New England Patriots for a 2011 first-round draft pick, Seymour started all 16 games in his first season with the Raiders, totaling 47 tackles, including 4 quarterback sacks.

A first-round pick (6th overall) out of the University of Georgia by the New England Patriots in 2001, Seymour has 404 tackles, including 43 quarterback sacks, during his nine-year NFL career. Seymour helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl wins, and is a five-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, and a member of the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
