PFT: Truth on the Brandon Marshall Contract

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com has gotten a look-see at the five-year, $50 million dollar contract that Brandon Marshall signed with the Miami Dolphins and "quelle surprise!", it's not all it's cracked up to be.

"For starters, the full contract is worth $47.3 million over five years. It contains a phony $2.7 million roster bonus payable in 2014 -- but only if Marshall participates in 95 percent or more of the Dolphins' special teams plays in 2010", Florio writes, before going into further detail about signing bonuses, guaranteed base salaries, etc...

If you're a cap/contract nerd like me, you'll want to read it.

As I wrote on Wednesday, the total value of the contract isn't nearly as meaningful as the guaranteed portion, and Marshall's contract ($24M guaranteed) doesn't approach what Larry Fitzgerald got from the Arizona Cardinals ($32.1M guaranteed).
