PFT: Carroll "Dances on Tampering Line" With Albert Haynesworth

During a Thursday appearance on Washington, D.C. sports radio station 106.7 The Fan, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll may have tampered with Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com thinks that, during a Thursday appearance on Washington, D.C. sports radio station 106.7 The Fan, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll may have tampered with Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth.

Carroll's quote, according to Florio:

"I'm not gonna make a decision, declaration on something like that without knowing the player, hearing the situation, and gathering as much as you can. Because you don't ever really know the whole story until you dig in...We were interested in the thought of him because he's such a fantastic player, but if he wants to play the game. That's what you have to figure out. Where's the love of the game in all this? And where does this all fit in? Because if you're getting a guy that's, regardless of what you're playing him at, if his heart isn't in it 1000 percent, he wants to be great and part of a great team, then you need to get another guy. It just depends, and I would look deep into it and we started the process because we thought maybe they weren't gonna be able to come to a deal and they were gonna make him available, but it didn't work out that way."

The Seahawks have been interested in acquiring any player of recognizable talent this off-season, and Carroll acknowledges that the Seahawks had interest in Albert Haynesworth. In case we've forgotten, the Redskins granted permission to Haynesworth to find another employer by April 1. Florio suggests that Carroll's comments "indirectly provides some clues as to things that could renew that interest, such as a demonstration of the 'love of the game' and a desire to 'be great and part of a great team.'".

Of course, nothing Carroll said on Thursday may have differed from what was communicated to Haynesworth's camp in March, making a tampering case impossible to allege, let alone prove.

With all of his childish, Jim Rome-esque "Cheat Forever" nonsense, it's getting hard to take Florio seriously on anything Pete Carroll-related. Remember, Florio is the same guy who suggested that the sanctions against USC meant Carroll had a shorter leash in Seattle, and that he may ultimately end up as a defensive backs coach in the NFL if lost the Seattle gig because no college would touch him.

Keep fishin', Mike
