Penn Wasn't Planning Lengthy Holdout

With the ink still drying on his six-year, $43 million dollar contract extension, Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn says he wasn't planning a lengthy holdout this summer.

"If it hadn’t come through I wasn’t going to hold out that long," Penn said on Saturday, according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune. "I mean, I had to get into football shape.

"And I got a lot of pride. I didn’t want to come in and be behind and then it takes me two or three games to get adjusted. I talk too much trash to let that happen, so I have to be able to back it up."

Penn's contract reportedly contains $20 million dollars in guaranteed money.
