Patriots to Receive 3rd Round Pick From Vikings For Randy Moss

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that when the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings complete a trade later today for Pro Bowl wide receiver Randy Moss, the Patriots will receive a 2011 third-round pick as trade compensation.

New England now has additional picks in rounds 1-4 in next year's draft.

Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network reports that Moss will not receive a new contract as part of the trade.

According to the Boston Herald, Moss reportedly asked for a trade after Week 1. Moss was a highly-targeted receiver in the first two weeks of the season, but has been used as more of a decoy the last two weeks.

Moss (6-4, 215) spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Vikings, who selected him in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft out of Marshall.

Moss caught 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 touchdowns for the Vikings, earning five trips to the Pro Bowl before he was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005. After two sub-par seasons with the Silver & Black, Moss was dealt to the Patriots for a 2007 fourth-round pick.

A three-time captain for the Patriots, Moss returned to his Pro Bowl form, catching 259 passes for 4,904 yards and 50 touchdowns in 51 games for the Patriots. Moss is tied with Ben Coates for the second-most touchdown receptions in Patriots' history.

Uh oh! Guess Woodson better get ready to cover Moss and Calvin Johnson 4 times this year. If and when Sydney Rice comes back this could be bad news for the Pack!
