Patriots Sign 7th Round DL Brandon Deaderick

The New England Patriots have signed seventh-round defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick to a four-year contract, a league source said.

Deaderick's deal is worth $1.83 million dollars, and included a signing bonus of just over $40,000.

Deaderick started over 30 games during his four-year career at the University of Alabama, totaling 83 tackles, including 13 for a loss and 7 quarterback sacks.

Deaderick overcame some maturity issues early in his career at Tuscaloosa. Deaderick was arrested in 2007 for giving a false name to a police officer and then breaking the window of the patrol car with his head. Deaderick would take on a leadership role later in his college career, and demonstrated remarkable toughness by not missing a game, despite being shot by an attempted car thief just days before the season-opener against Virginia Tech. Deaderick posted one unassisted in a reserve role against the Hokies.

The 6-4, 287-pound native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky is a stout run defender, and projects a “5” technique end in New England's 3-4 system.

Deaderick is the sixth member of the Patriots' twelve-man draft class to sign a contract.
