Lions Place DE Jared DeVries on IR

The Detroit Lions announced several roster moves on Friday, including the placement of veteran defensive end Jared DeVries on season-ending injured reserve.
Safety David Roach, claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams last week, has been "Waived/Injured", with the Lions signing free agent safety John Wendling and rookie free agent defensive tackle Jaron Baston to take their spots on the 80-man roster.
DeVries (6-4, 275) has spent his entire 11-year career with the Lions, beginning as a third-round draft choice (70th overall) out of the University of Iowa in 1999. In 120 career games, DeVries has 16.5 quarterback sacks, with a career-high 6.5 sacks coming during the 2007 season.
After missing the entire 2009 season with a torn Achilles', DeVries asked for, and received, his release from the Lions earlier this off-season. The Lions re-signed him to a one-year deal in April, but he's been hampered by a knee injury that prompted him to visit a specialist in Atlanta earlier this week.
Wendling was a sixth-round pick in 2007 out of Wyoming by the Buffalo Bills. In 46 games for the Bills, the 6-1, 222-pound Wendling has posted 49 special teams tackles.
