Leinart Not Responding Well to Demotion

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart won't start tomorrow night's pre-season game against the Chicago Bears. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is giving Derek Anderson the start in what appears to be a planned rotation of the two top quarterbacks on the depth chart.

Leinart's response to the demotion, however, might prompt Whisenhunt to make it more permanent.

"I'm disappointed," Leinart tells Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic. "I’ve done everything to this point that they’ve asked me to and more. I’ve worked hard and been a leader. I’m trying to be that guy in this new role. I have high expectations for myself...It hasn’t gone the way we’ve wanted in the preseason. That’s the case sometimes when you have a lot of new players. We have to gel together and that’s what the preseason is about."

Leinart is 10-of-13 for 77 yards this pre-season, but the Cardinals have produced 0 points on the 10 offensive possessions Leinart has overseen. It's worth nothing that with the losses of Anquan Boldin and Kurt Warner, the Cardinals are going to be a running team. Thus far, the Cardinals have a 2-to-1 pass:run ration this pre-season.

"I feel I’ve been efficient," said Leinart. "I’ve been accurate. I haven’t turned the ball over. I don't know how we judge performance when you have 13 pass attempts to the other guy's 40. I’m not going to sit here and complain and point the finger. I have to get better and I'm going to get better."
