Laveranues Coles to Work Out For Jets

Free agent wide receiver Laveranues Coles is scheduled to fly into New York to work out for, and likely sign with, the New York Jets, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

If signed, this will be the third stint with the Jets for Coles, which started when they selected him in the third round (78th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Florida State University.

Coles signed with Washington Redskins in 2003, but was traded back to the Jets in 2005.

In 105 games over seven seasons with Gang Green, Coles has caught 459 passes for 5,941 yards and 37 touchdowns, ranking in the Top 5 in franchise history in each major receiving category.

After being released for financial purposes last off-season, Coles signed a four-year, $28 million dollar contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he caught 43 passes for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns. Coles was cut by the Bengals on March 4.

The Jets' interest in Coles dates back to April 30.
