Jeff Reed Heads to the Bay Area

Free agent kicker Jeff Reed has signed with the San Francisco 49ers, the SportsXchange reports, via FOXSports.com's Adam Caplan.

During his nine-year, all spent with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Reed has connected on 204 of his 249 field goal attempts (81.9%).

Playing under the one-year franchise tag, Reed was having his worst season as a pro, missing 7 of his 22 field goal attempts, including one miss in each of the three games prior to his release on November 16.

The Steelers replaced him with Shaun Suisham, who spent two weeks on the 49ers' practice squad in 2006.

San Francisco had one open roster spot after waiving kicker Shane Andrus on Monday.
