The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed sixth-round running back Deji Karim to a four-year contract, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Wilson reports the four-year deal is worth $1.9 million dollars, and includes a signing bonus of roughly $110,000.
Karim played two seasons at Southern Illinois after transferring from a junior college (Northeast Oklahoma A&M). In his first season with the Salukis, Karim gained 386 yards and scored 8 touchdowns on the ground. Karim missed 2008 with a knee injury, but returned in 2009 to rush for 1,694 yards and 18 touchdowns, earning first-team All-Gateway conference honors.
The 5-9, 209-pound Karim added 17 receptions for 212 yards and a touchdown as a receiver out of the backfield.
Karim ran a 4.4-40 at his Pro Day on March 11, and showed off his athleticism with a 43” vertical leap and 10’03” broad jump. Karim could see some action as a third-down back, and could be in the mix as a kick and punt returner, as well.
