If Suspended, Seahawks Can Void Leroy Hills' Base Salary Guarantee

Last night, I noted that one of the reasons the Seattle Seahawks are keeping linebacker Leroy Hill at arm's length during the off-season workouts is so that the oft-injured Hill does not sustain an injury, which could require the Seahawks to pay his entire $6 million dollar base salary in 2010.

Tonight, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Hill's $6 million dollar base salary is guaranteed for skill and injury, but there is language that would allow the Seahawks to void the contractual guarantees should Hill be suspended by the National Football League.

Hill is almost certain to face a one or two-game suspension after pleading guilty to marijuana possession in Georgia, charges for which Hill was sentenced to 12 months probation. The Douglas County solicitor-general may decide to revoke that probation should prosecutors in Washington state pursue domestic violence charges stemming from Hill's arrest in April.

Hill has a court date in Issaquah, Washington on Wednesday morning, while his Seahawks' teammates will be on the field for the fourth of their 10 scheduled OTA sessions.
