Giants Sign OL Shawn Andrews

The New York Giants have signed free agent offensive lineman Shawn Andrews, the team announced on Friday.

Offensive lineman Cliff Louis has been waived.

A first-round pick (16th overall) out of Arkansas in 2004, Andrews moved into the Eagles' starting lineup in 2005, and signed a seven-year, $36 million dollar contract extension in 2006.

After starting 50 games for the Eagles, Andrews injured his back two games into the 2008 season and was placed on injured reserve. Andrews spent the entire 2009 season on IR after aggravating the same back injury at the beginning of training camp.

The Eagles released Andrews on March 17.

Drafted by the UFL's Omaha NightHawks, Andrews opted to not sign with the team in order to pursue NFL opportunities.

The Giants plan to use Andrews as depth at both guard and tackle spots.
