Giants Place Mathias Kiwanuka on IR

Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports the New York Giants will place defensive end/linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka on injured reserve.
Kiwanuka has a herniated disc in his neck. Doctors have told the 2006 first-round pick that surgery is not required to repair the disc, but have provided no timetable for his return to the field.
Since being chosen with the 32nd overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, Kiwanuka (6-5, 265) has 222 tackles, 23.5 quarterback sacks, and a pair of interceptions. In the final year of his rookie contract, Kiwanuka was poised to have a breakout season, posting four sacks in three games before his injury.
Will Blackmon, Kiwanuka's former teammate Boston College, will take his spot on the Giants' 53-man roster.
