Falcons RB Jason Snelling Signs RFA Tender

Atlanta Falcons running back Jason Snelling has signed his one-year tender, Scott Smith, Snelling's agent, announced on Twitter.

A seventh-round pick (244th overall) out of the University of Virginia by the Falcons in 2007, Snelling was tendered at the "Second Round" level, which carries a $1.684 million dollar base salary in 2010.

Snelling spent the first half of his rookie season the Falcons' practice squad, and gained 105 yards on 28 carries in his first 23 games in the NFL. Snelling set career-highs in 2009 with 142 carries for 613 yards and four touchdowns rushing, and 30 receptions for 259 yards and a touchdown out of the backfield. The 5-11, 232-pound Snelling started a pair of games in place of an injured Michael Turner, and came off the bench to rush for 147 yards, the first 100-yard game of Snelling's career, in the Falcons' 20-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Snelling is the first of the Falcons six restricted free agents to sign his tender.

Snelling is a great young player. I think this guy can carry a 20+ worload and get the job done. I think he needs more carries and I feel he can be a starter.
