Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux's felony drug charge in Gwinett County (GA) was reduced to three misdemeanor charges on Monday, FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez reports.
Babineaux plead no contest to one of the charges, and was sentenced to 12 months probation and fined $1,500. The remaining two charges were suspended, and will not be pursued if Babineaux completes his probation without incident.
"I think instead of fighting the charge, he wanted to get it behind him and focus on the season," Pat McDonough, Babineaux's attorney, tells Marvez.
Babineaux still faces discipline from the NFL.
If Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill suspension is any indicator, Babineaux could get a one-game suspension and the loss of an additional game check. Hill plead guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge in Douglas County (GA) in April.
